Steam Through History Community Boat Parade

Join the Dewey Line for a Day!  In the grand tradition of the Lassen's Dewey Line, offering friendly service on Cedar Lake, you are invited to join the fleet.  Historically, we know that the Lassen's operated Grandpa Dewey, Grandma Dewey, Big Dewey, Little Dewey, Steamer Dewey and Baby Dewey.  We have reintroduced Steamer Dewey and Baby Dewey with our vessels offering resort history cruises on magnificent Cedar Lake. As we welcome our steamboat counterparts from across the midwest on July 26, 2023, we will conclude the day's activities with a Community Boat Parade.  Boats are encouraged to theme themselves ala Lassen's Dewey line. 

Logistics:

• Wednesday, July 26th (4th Wednesday / Farmer's Market day)
• Line up is at 6 pm, south of Binyon's Point / Toomey's / Party Cove
• Steamer Dewey will lead the parade. 
• Baby Dewey will be the final vessel in the procession.
• Please use the Dewey name in your theme and consider decorating (as in land parades) with depictions of Cedar Lake history from the resort era and/or steam-related embellishments. 
• Participation is free. Each captain that registers in advance will be provided with a Dewey Crew t-shirt during line-up. 
• The dredge boat passages will determine our ultimate route past the museum and town grounds.
• Participation is at your own risk.
• In the event of inclement weather, the parade will not take place.

Steam Through History Day is a day to celebrate the tremendous power of steam and its impact in our community and to humanity.  Rides aboard Steamer Dewey are offered all day long. Steam equipment will be on display and demonstrated throughout the day, including a steam traction engine, steam powered calliope, and additional steamboats.  Complimentary museum admission is sponsored by Mees Insurance Agency.  Visit the brand new Science of Steam exhibit, funded by Indiana Humanities and Centier Bank, in the museum gallery.  Enjoy live music from the porch, marionette shows, and more throughout the day. (Note: this is also a Farmer's Market day.)
